Sirajul Islam Shishir:
A court in Sirajganj on Sunday noon sentenced a man to death for killing his wife.
The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default of which, he will have to serve one more month in Jail.
The convicted is: Chand Ali, son of late Kalu Sarder of Enayetpur Sheltering Centre under Ullapara upazila of the district. Since the incident, the accused have been remained absconding, police said.
Naimur Rahman, Stenographer of Sirajganj District and Sessions Judge Court confirmed the matter of verdict to The Daily Sky.
According to the prosecution brief, Tahmina Khatun, daughter of Hanif Ali Mollah of Ullapara upazila got married off with Chand Ali, son of late Kalu Sarder of the Enayetpur Sheltering Centre few years ago of the occurrence.
After the marriage, the both almost used to engage in altercation over several trifling matters of the household.
At one stage on July 31, 2011, Chand Ali hacked his wife mercilessly at Enayetpur Sheltering Centre over a family feud. Hearing her hue and cry, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her in a critical condition. Later, she was taken to hospital, where the on duty doctors declared her death.
Victim’s father Hanif Ali Mollah filed a case in this connection accusing Chand Ali.
After completion of all hearings, M Ali Ahmed, elite Judge of District and Sessions Judge Court in Sirajganj delivered the verdict at around 12:30pm on Sunday. During the verdict, the accused was not present in the court, sources said.
