The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday showed former Awami League lawmaker from Chittagong-6 ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury arrested in a case filed for crimes against humanity over atrocities committed during the July-August mass uprising.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing the prosecution’s plea. The court then sent the former lawmaker back to jail.

“He is accused of abetting, inciting and participating in the attacks on students and people along with other leaders and cadres of Awami League in Chattogram on July 16. According to the eyewitnesses he also supplied arms to the attackers. Three people Wasim Akram, Faruk and Foysal Ahmed Shanto were martyred in the attacks in the Muradpur Mor area under Panchlaish thana,” said prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman.

The prosecutor, however, did not reveal the identities of the other accused in case number ICT BD 10/2025 over security reasons.

Prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud, Gazi MH Tamim, Moinul Karim, Tarek Abdullah and Saimum Reza were present in the courtroom during the hearing.

The ICT on February 5 had set Sunday to produce ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury before it.
