IGP Mamun, Ziaul among 8 appear in tribunal

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and eight law enforcement officials have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in a case of crimes against humanity. They were brought to the tribunal located at the old High Court premises after 10 am on Wednesday.

Apart from former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) Major General (retd.) Ziaul Ahsan, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan, dismissed Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District Abdullahil Kafi, former OC of Gulshan Police Station Md. Mazharul Haque and former Inspector of Dhaka North DB Md. Arafat Hossain may be shown arrested today.

Former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mirpur Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Jasim Uddin Mollah and former Additional Superintendent (Savar Circle) of Dhaka District Police Md. Shahidul Islam have already been shown arrested.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam filed the case at the International Crimes Tribunal on October 27 on charges of crimes against humanity in the July-August mass uprising. That day, the Chief Prosecutor requested that the accused in the case be appeared before the tribunal on November 20 (today, Wednesday), and it was granted.
