Officials of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority jointly conducted a drive at an illegal baby food factory in Gandhail of Kazipur upazila in Sirajganj district on Wednesday and fined it at Tk 50,000 for producing and marketing foods without legal process.
During the drive, the officials also seized various materials of the food producing and processing factory and sealed it off. But no one was arrested or jailed in this connection, they said.
Sources said, a team led by Sohel Sheikh, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection and Atikur Rahman, Food Safety officer of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority in Sirajganj in collaboration with police personnel carried out the drive at Messrs Ismail Foods owned by one Md. Liton Sheikh.
During the drive, they found that, various types of baby foods like drinks, Chatni and chips were produced in the factory and marketed with various attractive and colorful packets without approval of BSTI. Therefore, they went to the action.
