Finally, the two officers of the Water Development Board (WDB) in Sirajganj have been transferred to elsewhere after publishing several news-reports on The Daily Sky over their corruptions and anomalies centering a riverbank protection project.

Earlier The Daily Sky through its several news-reports focused their corruptions and anomalies centering the project that was taken to protect right embankment of the Jamuna river from Brahmangram to Hatpanchil in Shahzadpur upazila of the district involving at around Tk Tk 647 crore.

On July 7, a news-report titled “Human chain demands removal of Sirajganj WDB’s XEN, SDE,” was published on The Daily Sky. Earlier this, another report titled “River erosion takes serious turn in Sirajganj” was published at the newspaper on June 23 highlighting corruption allegations against the officials.

The reports revealed the current situation of the local residents, who demanded their (officers) removal for their (officers) alleged negligence and irregularities in the project work that made them (local dwellers) harmed and destitute due to massive erosion by the river Jamuna.

After hearing the news of the officials’ transfer, people of several villages including Brahmangram, Jalalpur, Arkandi, Monakosa, Panchil and Hatpanchil area expressed their happiness and reaction saying that, “Both the officers amassed crores of taka from the different projects through corruption and anomalies. So, necessary action should take against them after conducting fair investigation. Only transfer is not enough in this context.”

They also urged the new officers, who have been replaced on their positions, to implement the project in time with honesty and transparency for the sake of local residents in which they get rid from furious erosion of Jamuna river in future.
