Speakers at a discussion meeting on Tuesday (July 22) said that, as the children of the country are considered as the future of nation, society should ensure a safe and supportive environment for all the children’s including their physical, psychological, educational and moral development.
They also said, the legal framework on combating children’s illiteracy, dropout from educational institutions, engagement in manual jobs and trafficking needs to be properly implemented to prop up a rights-based strategy, and focus more on the children’s physical and psychological injury as well as on the financial and property losses sustained by the victim.
Jagrata Juba Shangha (JJS) arranged the discussion meeting at Caritas auditorium in Khulna city title “Capacity building of children and community for protection of children from sexual abuse and drug addiction” with support of Kindernothilfe (KNH) Germany focusing on child protection.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (general) of Khulna Md. Hossain Shawkat addressed the discussion as chief guest. Executive Director of JJS ATM Zakir Hossain presided over the function. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Sharif Asif Rahman, Chief of UNICEF of Khulna Field Office Md Kawsar Hossain, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Khulna Md Mizanur Rahman and Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Suraiya Siddiqa among others were present as special guests. Director Program of JJS MM Chisthy conducted the function. Project Manager PCSD Project M. Hasibul Hasan delivered the welcome address.
In the program, 10 street children in Khulna City participated and shared their problems which they face daily. The project is working to build up capacity of the children and community through different kinds of awareness session with children group, meeting with mothers group, meeting with community based child protection committee, meeting with school based sexual abuse resistance committee and relevant stakeholders.
