Imranur Rahman has regained the crown as Bangladesh’s fastest man, winning the 100m sprint at the National Summer Athletics Competition on Friday. This marks the fifth time the UK-based sprinter has clinched the title in the country’s premier sprint event.

A true flagbearer for Bangladesh in track and field, Imranur has been one of the nation’s standout athletes in recent years. He previously held the title of the country’s fastest man for three consecutive years, setting a national record in the 100m, before making history at the 2023 Asian Indoor Championships by winning gold in the 60m sprint. He also clocked an impressive 10.11 seconds in London to set another record.

But his career faced a major setback last year. An injury forced him to cut short his race at the Paris Olympics, keeping him sidelined from competition for the past seven to eight months. He even underwent surgery for an abdominal muscle issue, which prevented him from competing in several domestic and international meets.

Now fully recovered, the 32-year-old sprinter made a triumphant return to the track, signaling his readiness to dominate once again.
