TDS Desk:

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said that the main objectives of independence were to ensure political and economic freedom, build a society free from exploitation, uphold the dignity of every citizen and strengthen people’s empowerment at all levels.

In a message marking the eve of Independence and National Day to be observed on Thursday, the President called for renewed efforts to fulfill the unfinished aspirations of independence.

He emphasized the need to ensure equality, good governance, transparency and accountability across all sectors of the state and society.

“It is our sacred duty to build a safe, prosperous and compassionate Bangladesh for future generations,” he said, extending warm greetings to Bangladeshis at home and abroad.

Describing independence as the nation’s greatest achievement, President Shahabuddin paid deep tribute to the martyrs of Liberation War, whose sacrifices secured the country’s freedom.

He also honored Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, along with all freedom fighters, persecuted women, national leaders and people from all walks of life who contributed to the struggle.

He noted that the sacrifices of the freedom fighters continue to inspire the nation to move forward in building a modern Bangladesh based on equality, justice, democracy and human dignity.

The President acknowledged that the country is still facing challenges stemming from prolonged misgovernance, global economic pressures and unexpected energy crises.

However, he affirmed that the government remains committed to addressing these issues with sincerity and competence, while working toward a self-reliant and dynamic nation.

Stressing the importance of unity, he said that national solidarity, mutual empathy and patriotism are crucial at this time.

He urged citizens; regardless of political affiliation or opinion, to work together to build a just, secure and prosperous Bangladesh for current and future generations.

The President also wished success for all programmes undertaken to commemorate the historic day.
