Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan has said that no gas exploration has taken place in Bangladesh over the last 15 and a-half years.
“Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) was kept idle, but there are now efforts to extract gas from Bhola,” he said while addressing reporters during a visit to the Ghorashal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi on Saturday noon.
Adilur highlighted the ongoing gas crisis in the country, noting its impact on fertilizer production. “Fertilizer production will increase in the future once the gas crisis is resolved. Efforts are being made to mitigate the current fertilizer shortage in the country, though numerous obstacles remain in achieving this goal,” he said.
The adviser also pointed out widespread corruption in various sectors over the past 15 and a half years.
“Efforts are underway to address and eliminate corruption,” he added.
