Overall inflation in Bangladesh increased for the third straight month, reaching 8.58 percent in January, up from 8.49 percent the previous month, largely driven by a sharp rise in food prices, according to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

In January, food inflation jumped to 8.29 percent, up from 7.71 percent a month earlier, reflecting continued pressure on household budgets amid higher prices of essential commodities, the BBS data showed.

In contrast, non-food inflation eased to 8.81 percent, down from 9.13 percent in December, offering some relief in areas such as clothing, transport, housing, and other services

Inflation stood at 8.29 percent in November and 8.17 percent in October.
