Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has expressed his aim to bring the country’s media sector under a modern management framework. He made the remarks while responding to journalists following a meeting with district-level government officials at the Barishal Circuit House this morning.

Emphasizing the unhindered flow of information to the public, the Minister stated, “The scope of accountability will be determined based on the opinions of all stakeholders, including journalists, to ensure maximum freedom. Our goal is to bring the media as a whole under a modern management system.”

Zahir Uddin Swapan further noted, “We’ve yet to fully integrate into the new media landscape within the modern technology-driven global ecosystem. The Ministry of Information was established during an era when information technology-based media did not exist.”

The Minister added, “The necessary adaptation to the current expansion of IT-based media has not materialized so far. We’ll ensure the unhindered flow of information to the people by gradually consulting with all government policymakers.”

Earlier, the Minister distributed grant cheques from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to victims of road accidents. A total of BDT 21.7 million was handed over to 61 affected individuals.
