Mamnur Rahman, Ishwardi, Pabna:
A weather monitoring tower of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is now going to be constructed at the site of previous upazila and municipal Awami League office in Ishwardi of Pabna district.
Pakshi Railway Divisional Office sources said, local Awami League had been operated their political activities at the mentioned location for a long time after establishing an office by occupying the land illegally.
However, after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, two of the party offices were vandalized by agitating students and public during the students-public movement.
Then, on the night of February 5 this year, the students and the public also demolished the remaining structure with a bulldozer.
During a spot visit on Thursday, this correspondent found that, brick pieces, rods and cement from the demolished part of the party offices were removed with an excavator. There was notice board writing with ‘Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Weather Monitoring Tower Project’s construction is in progress, public entry is prohibited’.
According to the sources, the project is being implemented by M/s Aradhana Enterprise. Senior Deputy Assistant Engineer of Railway Pakshi Divisional Office Atiqur Rahman said that, the construction of a weather observation tower has started at that place on the instructions of Engineer-2 and with the permission of the Railway. He further said that, not only this place but also five more places in Iswardi and Pakshi are being used for such as construction works.
