Dr Golam Rasul, professor and chair of the Department of Economics at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), has been ranked in the list of world’s top 2 per cent of scientists this year.
The prestigious list of scientists was published by Stanford University and Elsevier Science as this recognition is based on a comprehensive evaluation of publications, citations, and the overall impact of each scientist, a press release said.
Dr Rasul joined IUBAT in 2022, following his tenure as Chief Economist at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), a leading research organisation in Asia, reports BSS.
Prior to that, he served for over 15 years in Bangladesh’s Civil Service Administration Cadre, working in various ministries and field administration.
Dr Rasul holds a BSc (Honors) and MSc in Economics from Jahangirnagar University, and a PhD from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
His research portfolio spans a range of areas, including agriculture, food security, environment, rural development, and poverty alleviation.
He has authored about 200 papers published in prestigious international journals, and his research findings have been incorporated into numerous national and global policy documents.
He is the first Bangladeshi to serve as a Coordinating Lead Author for a report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a United Nations body.
In addition to his academic and research achievements, Dr Rasul is a frequent contributor to national and international policy debates, providing expert insights and analysis on various issues. His opinions have been featured in numerous national and international newspapers.
