Evergreen Transport, a bus service operating between Dhaka and Rajshahi, Natore, and Chapainawabganj, has cancelled trips for on Saturday and issued refunds for its tickets, citing severe traffic congestion on the Jamuna Bridge.

“Due to severe traffic congestion on the Jamuna Bridge, no vehicles have been able to proceed toward Rajshahi or Dhaka,” the bus company said in a text message to its passengers.

“As a result, your scheduled coach for today has been cancelled. We sincerely apologize for this unexpected inconvenience,” reads the message.

The bus company then provided contact information to its offices in Rajshahi, Natore, and Chapai for a refund or to reschedule the journey.

Meanwhile, passengers said the cancellation of the trips caused them more suffering.

Sobuj Sarker, one of the passengers, said he had bought a ticket online eight days ago.

“The bus was scheduled to depart from Rajshahi for Dhaka at 12pm today, but at around 11:20am, I received an SMS that the bus schedule had been cancelled,” he said.

“My office starts tomorrow. After receiving the message, I contacted Bdtickets and the New Himachal counter. Instead of apologising, they behaved as if I had committed a crime by buying the ticket,” Sobuj added.
