The Rajshahi University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Sunday announced its full panel of candidates for the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) elections, scheduled for September 25.
The lineup was formally declared by JCD central organising secretary Aman Ullah Aman around 12:30pm at the university’s Shaheed Minar premises .
The top three nominations include Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir (2017–18 session) for vice-president (VP), Nafiul Jibon (2017–18 session) for general secretary (GS), and Jahin Biswas Esha (2020–21 session) for assistant general secretary (AGS).
The other secretary posts will be contested by Nargis Khatun (sports secretary), Mahfuzur Rahman Shawon (assistant sports secretary), Abdullah Al Kafi (cultural secretary), Shahriar Alam Othi (assistant cultural secretary), Swapna Akter (women affairs secretary), Nusrat Ishita (assistant women affairs secretary), Gazi Ferdous Hasan (information and research secretary), Redowanul Islam Hridoy (assistant information and research secretary), Rafayetul Islam Rabi t (media and publication secretary), Nur Nabi (assistant media and publication secretary), Maruf Hossain (science and technology secretary), Naimul Islam Naim (assistant science and technology secretary), Masum Billah (debate and literary secretary), Jisan Babu (assistant debate and literary secretary), AR Rafi Khan (environment and social welfare secretary), and Kunjosree Roy Sulagna (assistant environment and social welfare secretary).
Candidates for the executive member posts are Minarul Islam Megh, Sayed Hasan Ibn-e-Ruhul, Mahbub Morshed Illin, and Ashraful Islam.
Meanwhile, several top leaders of the RU JCD unit, along with a former coordinator, have applied to enrol in a second master’s programme. In a written petition submitted to Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hasan Nakib on September 3, they said political persecution under the previous government had prevented them from completing their earlier degrees, citing imprisonment, harassment, and cases filed against them.
Commenting on the matter during the panel announcement, candidate Aman Ullah said, “If double masters were pursued only to contest the Rucsu elections, then our president and general secretary would have contested for VP and GS posts. But we have formed our panel with regular students only. Those who have the merit will contest as JCD-nominated candidates. That is the principle we believe in.”
