Some students of Jagannath University (JnU) held a protest march and rally on Friday demanding the ban on the Awami League.

The march began after Jummah prayers at the university’s central mosque, passing through the campus, circling the Sadarghat Victoria Park, and gathering in front of the university’s main gate.

The rally was attended by leaders of various student organizations and general students. They delivered speeches calling for the ban on the Awami League.

During the rally, the speakers demanded the prohibition of the Awami League in Bangladesh’s politics, saying that the memory of the massacre carried out by the Awami League during the July uprising still lingers.

They emphasized that rehabilitating the Awami League in Bangladesh would be a betrayal of the blood of the martyrs.

Raihan Hasan Rabbi, general secretary of the branch of the Student Rights Council, said: “The same people who shot our brothers like birds during the July uprising, how can they engage in politics in this country? Our movement today is for the ban of Awami League. Our movement will continue until the Awami League is banned from Bangladesh.”

Riyazul, general secretary of the JnU branch of Chhatra Shibir, said: “We are living in a new Bangladesh through the emptiness of a thousand mothers’ hearts. We do not want those whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of thousands of brothers to do politics in Bangladesh. We do not want the return of a politics of murder and terrorism.

“To the interim government, we warn you not to forget that the seat of your power rests on the blood of my brother. Do not betray the blood of martyrs.”
