Joint forces have conducted raids on various vehicles in Sirajganj for charging extra fare from passengers returning to work places after the Eid holidays. A fine of Tk 45,700 has been imposed in the drive along with various terms of imprisonment, sources said.
On Tuesday (April 8), a mobile court was conducted at various places including Hatikumrul Highway and Kodda intersection in Sirajganj against bus and vehicle owners who were charging extra fare from passengers.
The raid was led by Sirajganj Sadar Army Camp Commander Major Maruf and Executive Magistrate and Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Afifan Najmu.
Sirajganj Army Commander Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Bin Kabir said, “We have received complaints from different place about over-charging from people returning to working place including Dhaka after the Eid holidays. Therefore, we have taken strict action.”
“Army is working on the ground to stop the collection of excessive fares and ensure that passengers can return to work without any hazard,” Junayed bin Kabir said adding that during the operation, those who were collecting excessive fares, were fined Tk 45,700 along with various terms of imprisonment.
The drive will be continued, he also said.
