Nigar Sultana Joty has made history by becoming the first female cricketer in Bangladesh to score a first-class century. She achieved this milestone while playing for Central Zone on the final day of their three-day match against North Zone in the first round of the Women’s Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.

Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team skipper Joty scored an unbeaten 153 runs off 253 balls, helping Central Zone reach 387-8 declared in response to North Zone’s first innings total of 240-9 declared, giving her team a 147-run lead. She resumed play on the final day with 85 runs, needing just 15 more to complete her century, which she accomplished in the morning.

As of the time this report was written, North Zone had scored 46 runs without losing a wicket after 16 overs, with openers Fargana Haque and Ishma Tanjim unbeaten on 29 and 12 runs, respectively.

In another match taking place in Rajshahi, East Zone was struggling at five wickets down for 130 runs in their second innings, trailing South Zone by 24 runs.

This year’s Women’s BCL marks the first-ever three-day tournament for women cricketers in the country.
