Money’s lure and the chaos it breeds take centre stage in “Taka”, an upcoming dark-comedy thriller written and directed by Tarek Rahman. Starring Farhan Ahmed Jovan and Keya Payel, the film explores greed, temptation, and the moral compromises people make in their pursuit of wealth — a theme that feels as urgent as ever in contemporary Bangladesh.
Director Tarek Rahman, known for experimenting with unconventional storytelling, says “Taka” aims to offer something rare in local entertainment. “In Bangladesh, the dark-comedy thriller is still a new genre,” he said. “This film combines psychological tension with humour to explore how desire distorts ethics.”
Jovan takes on a layered role — part satire, part psychological study — portraying a man ensnared by ambition and deceit. His character embodies the fine line between desperation and absurdity. Keya Payel joins him as co-lead, adding emotional depth to the story’s web of power, greed, and betrayal.
The supporting cast features Shiba Shanu, Don, Arman Parvez Murad, A K Azad Setu, Parvez Suman, and Saimum Sajid. The film’s visual tone is shaped by cinematographer Sumon Hossain, while Saeed Nafis handles the music, Kamruzzaman Sumon serves as art director, and Masud Rana leads makeup.
Nazmul Huda Shapla produces the project under with Masud Munsur as executive producer and Uday Chowdhury coordinating.
“Taka” will premiere on November 20 on official YouTube channel. Its digital-first release reflects a broader shift among Bangladeshi creators towards online platforms — offering bold, genre-blending works that challenge traditional viewing patterns.
