Police have arrested a local Jubo League leader from a Tangail brothel in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The arrestee, Shah Jony, son of Israfil from the city’s Akur Thakur Para area, serves as the joint general secretary of Tangail district Jubo League.
Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tanvir Ahmed confirmed the arrest, saying Jony was picked up during a raid acting on a tip-off. He faces multiple cases tied to attacks on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Police said Jony will be produced before the Tangail court on Monday (15 September).
According to case details, on 4 August 2024, at around 11 am, armed assailants opened fire on activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the city’s Bottola area. Lal Mia, a resident of Chinamura village in Kalihati, was injured in the incident.
Later, Lal Mia filed a case naming 230 people, including the Tangail district Awami League president and secretary, along with 150–200 unnamed individuals. Shah Jony is listed as the 41st accused in that case.
