Allegation of making a family isolated by blocking the road with bamboo fences has been intensified against their influential neighbors and local headmen centering a dispute over land.
The incident, which has occurred at Itali Purba Para village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila, created criticism across the country.
Meanwhile, a written complaint has been submitted to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sirajganj Sadar upazila seeking remedy in this regard.
Monowar Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Sirajganj Sadar upazila said, “I have already sent the allegation to the Officer in Charge of concerned police station asking to take necessary steps in this regard.”
According to the written complaint, a long standing feud had been going on between the victim Kamruzzaman alias Khayruzzaman and his neighbor-Arif, Wadud, Tainus, Taohid, Tamzid and Moynal Khan over a piece of land. Centering the feud, a village arbitration was organized in the area about a month ago led by some local headmen including BNP leader Tainus, ward Awami League leader and former UP member Anwar Hossain, Ibrahim Hossain, Moynal Khan and Belal Khan. During the village trial, the headmen announced a verdict against Kamruzzaman and punished him. They directed the villagers to make Kamruzzaman family isolated by blocking the sole road with bamboo fence in order to the family members can’t move anywhere. The headmen also warned saying that, if someone carries any of their family members with rickshaw or van, the driver will be charged at Tk 5000 as fine.
Since then, the family members have fallen in trap in a house and can’t move anywhere freely. Even, they can’t collect fodders of 13 cattle that caused of immense suffering to the animals.
Mokhlesur Rahman, Officer in Charge of Sadar thana said, “I am yet to get any allegation. If I get, action would be taken then.”
