Entertainment Desk:
Kim Kardashian is no stranger to wearing fashion history. Almost two years ago, Kim Kardashian purchased Princess Diana’s Attallah Cross necklace at auction, and this past weekend, she wore it publicly for the first time.
At the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, Kardashian paired the ornate, bejeweled cross pendant with a plunging ivory gown. She also wore an ivory choker, reminiscent of one Diana used to wear.
The pendant, created by Garrard, was named for Naim Attallah, who loaned it to Diana on numerous occasions. Per jewelry house, it is “a pendant crafted in white gold and silver; set with amethysts and diamonds… created in a Renaissance style by Garrard in the early 20th century.” Princess Diana’s most famous outing in the cross was to a charity gala in 1987:
“Few people could carry this piece off but Diana really could,” Naim Attallah’s son, Ramsay Attallah, said before Kardashian purchased the pendant at auction. “When I was growing up, we’d always have it on the table for Christmas lunch, but it was never worn by anyone other than Diana and it hasn’t been seen in public since she died.”
Kardashian purchased it for around $212,000. After, Kristian Spofforth, head of jewelry at Sotheby’s in London, said in a release, “This is a bold piece of jewellery by its size, colour and style which cannot fail to make a vibrant statement, whether it be of faith or fashion – or indeed both. We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name.”
LACMA Art + Film Gala makes the first public appearance for the pendant in decades. However, two weeks ago, to celebrate Kardashian’s birthday, Maison Margiela’s Image Director Lexy Roche shared a never-before-seen photo of Kardashian in a fitting wearing the Attallah Cross—leading some online to speculate she was thinking about wearing it to the 2024 Met Gala.
