BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is in “better health” at her son Tarique Rahman’s home in London, according to her personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain.

“She’s in a better mental state. Doctors have visited her at home and her condition is stable now,” Zahid said.

The 79-year-old former prime minister has been suffering from a combination of liver cirrhosis, cardiac issues, kidney ailments and other health complications.

Khaleda flew to London on an air ambulance on Jan 8 for advanced medical treatment and was admitted to The London Clinic on the same day.

After undergoing various tests, she was discharged on Jan 25 and moved to her son Tarique’s home, where she is receiving medical care.

“Her daughters-in-law Dr Zubaida Rahman, Syeda Shamila Rahman and her three grandchildren are there. Tarique’s daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman, along with Zahia Rahman and Zafia Rahman [the late Arafat Rahman’s daughters] are taking care of their grandmother,” Zahid said.

Asked when Khaleda could return to Bangladesh, Zahid said: “She will return when the doctors deem her fit for travel.”
