BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been exempted from a sabotage case by a court in Comilla.
Judge Afroza Shyuli of Comilla Additional Sessions Judge Court-1 passed the order on Monday, which became public on Wednesday.
The information was confirmed by Public Prosecutor Kaimul Haque Rinku.
Rinku said that on January 25, 2015, during a hartal, activists of the 20-party alliance vandalized and set fire to a covered van on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the Chauddagram area of Comilla.
Following the incident, police filed a case under the Special Powers Act, naming Khaleda Zia and 31 others as accused.
He further mentioned that Khaleda Zia was the 32nd accused in the case.
The court granted acquittal to all accused based on an appeal by Khaleda Zia’s lawyers.
