After ED’s questioning in the ration distribution corruption case, actress RituparnaSengupta has expressed her desire to return Rs 70 lakh.
The “Praktan” actress appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at its city office in last month in connection with the ongoing investigation into the multi-crore ration distribution scam, according to NDTV reports.
She wants to return Rs 70 lakh only after the ED’s interrogation in the ration distribution corruption case, ED sources claimed on Tuesday.
Rituparna went to the ED office at CGO complex last June. During the questioning, which lasted for over five hours, Sengupta was asked about her relationship with former Food and Supplies Minister JyotipriyoMallick, who has been arrested in the case, officials said.
Following the questioning, Sengupta claimed that she had no connection with the alleged irregularities.
An ED official claimed that the investigators have obtained information about Rituparna’s financial transactions with an accused arrested in the ration corruption case. Through that source, it is also known that there has been a financial transaction with the accused in the amount of crores of a company, whose name is actress Rituparna as the proprietor.
Previously, the central probe agency had asked the actress to appear before its officers on June 5 in connection with the matter.
Rituparna, who was in the USA for personal reasons at the time, requested another meeting with the ED officers upon her return.
