Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Tuesday said Ansar members will be deployed at all sacrificial cattle markets during Eid-ul-Azha.
Highlighting that the government has information about extortion centred around Eid, he said, “Law enforcement agencies will remain highly strict to prevent such activities.”
The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting on Eid security arrangements.
At the time, he also urged people to call the hotline number 166113 to report any incidents of extortion.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the meeting discussed the overall law and order situation in the country.
“A monitoring cell will remain active at Police Headquarters for seven days before and after Eid-ul-Azha,” he said.
He added that security personnel assigned during Eid have been instructed to remain on maximum alert to ensure public safety.
The minister said 15 cattle markets will be set up under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North City Corporation, while 11 markets will operate under Dhaka South City Corporation.
He also said the government has allocated Tk20 crore to provide salt free of cost for preserving sacrificial animal hides.
The minister further said all garment workers will receive their salaries and allowances before Eid.
“The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) have agreed to the matter,” he added.
