Actress Mousumi Hamid, a former Lux Channel i Superstar, has spent over a decade carving a niche for herself in Bangladeshi showbiz through television, OTT, and film. Her recent project took her deep into the Sundarbans, marking a memorable first: shooting inside the world’s largest mangrove forest.

Mousumi shared her experience working on the web-series “Bohemian Ghora”, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury—best known for “Aynabaji”. In the series, she plays a character named Azmeri, whose story is rooted in the raw, resilient lives of honey collectors within the forest.

“This was my first time working with Amitabh Reza Chowdhury. Though it took 14 years, it was worth the wait,” said Mousumi. “He is a director who works with tremendous care and dedication.”

The character of Azmeri posed both physical and emotional challenges. “The people who live there collect honey deep inside the jungle. That’s their profession, and in a way, their addiction. My character mirrors that life,” Mousumi explained.

Shooting was not easy. “There were tiny canals to cross, and at times, we were knee-deep in mud and water. I tried to immerse myself in the role as fully as I could.” She added, “The real honey collectors helped us, and I even collected honey myself. It felt like I was part of a new world.”

Upon being asked about the people of the Sundarbans, she said, “They’re incredibly simple yet fiercely brave. They live with immense courage. When the shoot wrapped up and we left, I felt a strange sense of loss, for the jungle, and for those people.”

“Bohemian Ghora” features Mosharraf Karim in the lead roles. Speaking about working with him she said, “I’ve worked with Mosharraf bhai before. It’s always a pleasure.”

Mousumi has also wrapped a seven-episode Eid special drama titled “Ganok”, directed by Naznin Hasan Khan. “Aside from that, there are a few more exciting projects on the horizon,” she confirmed.
