In addition to the gas and electricity crisis, the leftist labor movement has now become a major obstacle to industrialization in Barisal.
Despite the development of communication and transportation systems, the gas and electricity crisis in Barisal has existed since ancient times. Now the leftist labor movement has been associated with it. Some rickshaw workers in the city, along with local industrial factory workers, have stopped the production of the factories with words. The industrial owners are helpless to them. They are almost hostages. A leftist woman leader named Manisha Chakraborty has been supporting them.
Whenever lime is extracted from betel leaves in all the small and big mills in the city, she brings these workers and locks them, holds the owners hostage and stops production. The workers also take this opportunity to get all their reasonable and unreasonable demands.
Due to this harassment, more than a hundred mills in Barisal have been closed. Even so, no big mill has been established in Barisal. Bengal Biscuit, Sonargaon Textile Ltd., Khansons Textile Ltd., Olympic Cement Ltd. and Opsonin Pharma are among the few that have been closed.
Bengal Biscuit Factory has already been closed due to this misbehavior of the workers. Sonargaon Textile Ltd. is on the verge of closing. Opsonin is now shifting its factory from Barisal to Dhaka due to the workers’ agitation. Opsonin has already shifted one of its factories to Keraniganj, Dhaka.
Sonargaon Textile Mill had stopped production many times due to Manisha Chakraborty and her workers. About 5,000 workers in the district have lost their jobs. Another 2,500 are on the verge of losing their jobs.
The owner of Sonargaon Textile Ltd. is on the verge of bankruptcy. On the one hand, they have lost the market due to the decrease in demand for domestic yarn, and on the other hand, due to the lack of gas and electricity, the production cost is almost doubling by producing only with electricity at a very high price. Even then, the mill authorities have kept the factory alive by thinking about the future of the workers. But their dying breath has turned into a labor movement. The mill workers, along with outsiders, have locked the factory on the bad advice of Manisha Chakraborty.
Recently, two mill workers were fired for committing the most heinous crime, but some outside workers from the city, led by Manisha Chakraborty, locked the factory. They have locked two mill officials for five days. The officials have become seriously ill due to lack of food.
The owner told that even if they burn my factory, I will not bow to their unjust demands. I have endured their many unjust demands for the last 25-30 years, and I will not. We have invested thousands of crores of taka and have not received anything, but have become destitute.
It is worth noting that most of the factories established in the Barisal BSCIC industrial area are now closed.
Barisal Metropolitan Police sources said that the entire industrial factory in Barisal is currently hostage to Manisha Chakraborty and her forces. They are thinking of taking immediate action against them.
Mirza Mozammel Hossain, Senior Vice President of Barisal Metropolitan Chamber, said that due to the labor movement, we are now afraid to build a mill factory. Therefore, instead of investing in Barisal, we are investing in Dhaka or elsewhere.
When contacted, Barisal Zila Association President and the Global Development Bank Dr. Enayet Karim said that many factories in Bangladesh have closed due to labor non-cooperation. Due to this, many donor organizations including the World Bank Group have turned their backs on Bangladesh. He advised the government to be strict in this regard.
An intelligence agency source said that Manisha Chakraborty is an Indian fundamentalist supporter and spy. India wants to use her to suppress industrialization and trade in the southern region so that the Bangladesh economy cannot move forward.
Intelligence sources also said that a report has been sent to the higher echelons of the government regarding Manisha Chakraborty. If permission is given, strict action will be taken soon.

Manisha Chakraborty

It is worth noting that Manisha Chakraborty lost her deposit every time she participated in the National Assembly and City Corporation elections. Despite calling her several times, Manisha Chakraborty did not receive our calls.
Bangladesh Textile Mills Association President Shawkat Aziz Rubel said that due to these evil forces, no industrial factories are being developed in the district cities of Bangladesh. He immediately requested the government to take strict action against these evil forces.
