Sarjis Alam, the chief organiser for the northern region of the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), has been served a legal notice for making disparaging remarks about the High Court.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Jasim Uddin issued the legal notice to Sarjis Alam on Saturday, citing contemptuous comments regarding a recent court ruling.

The incident stems from the High Court’s 22 April verdict, which stated that there were no legal barriers to BNP leader Ishraq Hossain taking oath as mayor. In reaction, Sarjis Alam posted a critical comment on Facebook expressing his disapproval.

In his post, he wrote: “If a High Court ruling can be obtained by creating a mob, then what is the need for such a High Court?”

The statement has sparked concerns over undermining judicial integrity, prompting legal action.
