Lightning strike kills Jashore student

A school student has died after being struck by lightning while playing football in the rain in Jashore.

The incident occurred around 11am on Friday at the Kamargram Government Primary School’s playground.

He was later declared dead by doctors at Jashore General Hospital.

The deceased, 12-year-old Mishkat Rahman Sultan, was a student in sixth grade at Ichhali Secondary School.

His mother, Selina Begum, said: “As schools were closed, Sultan and his friends were playing football on the primary school field. It began to rain, and then lightning struck.

“Sultan collapsed on the field after being hit by the lightning. Locals rushed him to Jashore General Hospital, where the doctor on duty at the emergency department declared him dead.”

Dr Zubaida Afsana from Jashore General Hospital said, “Sultan died from the lightning strike before reaching the hospital.”
