The ongoing nationwide lockdown or restrictions on public movement has been extended till May 16 in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus infections in the country.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam made the disclosure while talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting on Monday.

However, the shops and shopping malls have to maintain the health guidelines, otherwise the government will shut them down, he said.

Besides, public transport service within the district will resume on May 6, he added.

Earlier, the government enforced the ongoing complete lockdown from April 14 to contain the spread of the deadly virus. On April 20, the lockdown was extended for another one week. Later, the lockdown, which is scheduled to end on April 28, will now continue till May 5.
