A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Sumaiya Jafrin, wife of Major Sadik, on a five-day remand over allegations of involvement in a secret meeting and training of banned Awami League leaders and activists.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order after police produced her before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
Earlier on Wednesday (August 6 ), Sumaiya was detained by the detective branch of police from the Mirpur area of the capital over alleged participation alongside her husband, Major Sadik, in a secret meeting at KB Convention Center in the Vatara area in Dhaka.
The meeting reportedly involved government officials as well as banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Awami League activists and took place on 8 July from 10am to 6pm.
Following the incident, a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on 13 July with Vatara Police Station.
