A man was beaten to death by his ‘drug addict’ cousin at Sonaikundi Laskar Para in Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Apel Laskar, 50.

Police, however, took Apel’s cousin Sajedul Laskar into custody.

Quoting local people, Daulatpur Police Station OC Sheikh Awal Kabir said Sajedul Laskar, 32, beat up Apel with a stick while he was on his way to Bheramara for purchasing fish, leaving Apel dead on the spot.

Hearing screams, local people rushed to the spot and caught Sajedul red handed and, later, handed him over to police. But Apel died on the scene. Police sent the body to Kushtia Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Initially, it is suspected that Sajedul killed Apel for money.
