A court in Sirajganj on Wednesday awarded death sentence to a man for killing his wife in 2011.
The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer seven more years in jail and pay Tk 10,000 as fine.
Begum Salma Khatun, Justice of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 pronounced the verdict against Motinur Rahman, son of Baher Ali in Bhayat village of Tarash upazila in the district.
Masudur Rahman, PP of the court said, the court directed to execute the verdict by hanging him until death.
According to the prosecution, Matin had been demanding dowry from his wife Sabina Yeasmin for long. Due to non-compliance with the demand, he tortured his wife and suffocated her to death on September 29, 2011. Later, her body was recovered from a field nearby their house.
