A court in Sirajganj on Thursday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife for refusal to pay dowry.

The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer three more months in jail.

The convict is Ismail Hossain, son of Abu Talha of Paikosha Purbapara village in Kamarkhanda upazila of Sirajganj district.

Begum Salma Khatun, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 in Sirajganj delivered the verdict.

Another accused Sahida Begum, mother of the convicted Ismail Hossain was also acquitted as the allegation brought against her was not proved.

According to the prosecution story, the accused suffocated his wife Sumaiya Khatun to dead on June 19, 2020 as she refused to bring dowry money from her parents.
