A man was hacked to death by his rivals at Bohuli Baza’ar area in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Thursday night centering a dispute over land.

The deceased was identified as Bari Sheikh, 55, son of Hazi Abdur Rahman of Bohuli village in the upazila.

Shahin Mian, Sub Inspector (SI) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station told The Daily Sky that, “A dispute over ownership of a land had been going on between Bari Sheikh and one Nurnabi of the same village. Centering the issue, Nurnabi and his associates attacked Bari Sheikh at around 7:30 pm of the fateful night and hacked him mercilessly, while he was returning to his home from local Bohuli Baza’ar.

Hearing the victim’s screaming, locals rushed to the spot and took him to Sirajganj General Hospital, where the on duty doctors declared him dead.

Victim’s son Jakir Hossain lodged a case with Sirajganj Sadar Police Station in this connection.

But, no one was arrested so far in this incident, police said.
