In the face of student protests at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail, the authorities have suspended its registrar Mohd Touhidul Islam.

ICT Department Professor Sajjad Wahid has taken the charge of acting registrar, according to the notifications issued from the university.

The decision came after student demonstrations that began on September 23, when protesters locked the registrar’s office, demanding accountability for Touhidul and for teachers and staff who had opposed the student-led July–August mass uprising.

The protesting students issued two demands: keeping the registrar’s office locked until a trial committee is formed and the registrar is suspended, and publishing a roadmap for forming the institution’s central students’ union (Mucsu) by September 24.

‎An emergency meeting yesterday, attended by the dean, chairman, provost, and office heads, decided to suspend the registrar. A committee was also formed to investigate the allegations against him.
