Measles outbreak: Seven deaths in 24 hrs; toll rises 324

Since March 15, a total of 30,885 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized, of whom 27,223 have recovered

Seven children died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the 24 hours till 8 am Wednesday, raising the total death toll to 324, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest deaths, 2 were confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining 5 were classified as suspected cases. Among the suspected deaths, 4 were reported from Chittagong and Rajshahi divisions.

With the latest fatalities, the total number of confirmed measles deaths has reached 56, while suspected deaths stand at 268 since March 15.

DGHS data showed that 1,281 new suspected measles cases were recorded during the same period, taking the total number of suspected cases to 44,260. A total of 373 new confirmed measles cases were also reported, raising the total number of confirmed infections to 6,099.
