Medical board is examining physical condition of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia for sending her abroad in quickest possible time for better treatment.
Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain on Thursday told journalists at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
“Madam is undergoing treatment in the Evercare Hospital for 479 days. She returned home on August 21, but shifted to hospital again yesterday. Physicians’ opinion about her fitness is needed for taking her abroad,” Dr Zahid said.
“One’s physical fitness of tolerating negative pressure of journey is needed before boarding a flight,” he said adding “this is not a matter of story rather an academic, professional and scientific issue,” Dr Zahid said.
Taking these issues into consideration, medical board’s local and foreign members are consulting and thinking about taking measures quickly for taking her to advanced medical center abroad.
“Whenever she will be physically fit, she will be onboard for treatment abroad,” he said.
About the necessity of taking her abroad, Dr Zahid said Begum Khaleda Zia is suffering from some complicated diseases which need advance treatment.
Seeking doa for the BNP Chairperson, her personal physician said she requested the countrymen for praying for her recovery.
Begum Khaleda Zia was suffering from loneliness since she was taken to jail, Dr Zahid said adding that ‘it was part of the previous government’s orchestrated plan not to provide her required treatment to push her physical condition to a critical stage.
Dr Zahid alleged that instead of giving required treatment, the previous government admitted Begum Zia at BSMMU where she was deprived of getting proper treatment.
“That is why, her physical condition deteriorated again and again and finally came to the present stage. She also needed to be hospitalized frequently,” Dr Zahid said.
In the early hours of today at 1:40am, Begum Zia was taken to the Evercare Hospital from her Firoza residence in the capital’s Gulshan.
Dr Zahid said a medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder has given some medical tests as she is now in cabin of the Evercare Hospital.
Begum Khaleda Zia, 79, is suffering from different ailments including liver cirrhosis, heart, lung and kidney diseases, arthritis and diabetes for long.
On October 27 last year, she underwent a surgery for liver cirrhosis as three specialist physicians coming from the USA conducted the operation.
She had to undergo treatment for five months in a stint. In June last, a permanent pacemaker was implanted in her chest at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
