Fuad Chowdhury-directed film “Meghna Konnya” will be screened at 11th Silk Road International Film Festival. The five-day event will begin at Xi’an, Shaanxi province of China on 21 September.

The film is the only movie from South Asia selected for the festival. “Meghna Konnya” was released in theatres last Eid-ul-Fitr. The film was earlier screened at the Toronto International Film Fair (TIIF) in Canada.

“Meghna Konnya” is based on the story of two rural and urban women breaking the shackles. The story of the film is set in a rural backdrop with a difficult subject like women trafficking. The film depicts the journey to achieving dreams of two women from different backgrounds facing various social barriers.

Produced by Anwar Azad Films and SJ Motion Pictures, the movie is co-produced by Switzerland.

Actors Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shatabdi Wadud, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Shemonti Das Shumi, Sajjad Hossain and others have played different roles in the film. Fahmidur Rahman and Ahmed Khan Hirok have jointly written the script of the film.

The Silk Road International Film Festival is sponsored by China Media Group, Shaanxi and Fujian provincial governments. The main categories of the festival include film panorama, film forum, and the judging of the “Golden Silk Road Award” with the participation of film experts and eminent personalities from different countries.

The finale of the festival and prize distribution will be held on 25 September.
