Entertainment Desk:
Chorki’s original film ‘Meow’ brings an emotional story centred on a mother, her family and their pet cat. The film suggests that home is not merely a place to live, but a space shaped by love, pride, responsibility and quiet dependence. Through rising tensions within the household, it also raises questions about human responsibility towards pets.
Directed by Atiq Zaman, the film is fundamentally a family story in which the presence of a pet adds a distinct dimension to the narrative. However, its primary focus lies in exploring the complexities of relationships, emotional fractures and internal conflicts.
The cast features Sadia Ayman, Afsana Mimi, Afzal Hossain, Ishtiaq Ahmed Rumel, Rakib Hossain Yvon, Azizul Hakim, Kabyokatha Pratiti and Tamanna Haque Barna. Azizul Hakim and Afsana Mimi portray the parents.
Speaking about her role, Afsana Mimi said, “A family is like a state and the mother is a kind of director within it. Sometimes strict, sometimes affectionate, and sometimes compelled to make difficult decisions.”
Rakib Hossain Yvon plays the eldest son, Rafi, depicting the helplessness of a lower-middle-class young man burdened by responsibility.
One of the film’s notable features is Sadia Ayman’s real-life pet cat, ‘Alu’, who plays a central role in the story. According to the actor, the film will encourage audiences to reflect on the emotional bonds and mutual dependence between humans and their pets.
The screenplay has been written by Md Alam Bhuiyan, while the director and storyteller jointly penned the dialogues.
Meow will be released on Chorki at midnight on March 4.
