Mercury drops to season’s lowest 6.6°C in Sirajganj

The districts of Chuadanga and Sirajganj recorded the lowest temperature of 6 degrees Celsius in Bangladesh on Tuesday, the Met Office has said, as a mild to moderate cold wave sweeps across the country.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) recorded a temperature of 6.6°C in both Chuadanga and Sirajganj, marking it as the lowest temperature registered in the country on Tuesday morning.

Sirajganj Baghabari weather observatory officer in charge, Mustafa Kamal said, the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius in Baghabari today at 6 am. At the same time, the air humidity was 96 percent. At 9 a.m., the temperature further decreased to 6.6 degrees Celsius. At that time the air humidity was 97 percent. All primary and secondary schools in the district have been closed due to the severe winter.

Rakibul Hasan, Senior Meteorological Observer of Chuadanga Meteorological Observatory, said that the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga at 6 am on Tuesday. At that time the air humidity was 96 percent. At 9 a.m., the temperature further decreased to 6.6 degrees Celsius.

In this regard, Chuadanga District Primary Education Officer Tabibur Rahman said that on Tuesday, the temperature of Chuadanga dropped below 10 degrees Celsius, and instructions were sent to the heads of institutions to stop the academic activities. He also said that further action will be taken by monitoring the weather.

The primary education officer of Sirajganj SM Abdur Rahman said that academic activities have been closed as the temperature dropped below 10 degrees in the district. However, official activities will continue.
