A 13-year-old boy has succumbed to his injuries from a gas explosion in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka, bringing the death toll from the incident to four.
Abdullah breathed his last at 6:15am on Friday while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
Previously, while undergoing treatment, his mother, Ruma Akter, 32, father, Abdul Khalil, 40, and brother, Mohammad, 10, had died.
Among the burn victims, Shahjahan, 35, was treated and discharged.
The explosion occurred early on November 24 in a house in Mirpur due to a gas leak, causing seven members of the same family to get burned.
They were rescued and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the morning.
The victims included Abdul Khalil, a house painter, his wife Ruma Akter, sons Abdullah, 13, and Mohammad, 10, Ismail, 4, and also tenants of the house, a garment worker named Swapna, 25, and Shahjahan, 35.
Abdul Khalil’s brother, Abdul Halim, said the entire room in the house was filled with gas.
Khalil lit a gas-lighter around 3am to light a coil to ward off mosquitoes, causing the fire. They all got burned in the process.
Khalil’s elder brother, Milon, believes that gas had accumulated in the room due to a leak from the house’s gas line.
After the incident, local people rescued them and took them to the burn institute.
