Agitation has been created among the journalists over attacking and physically assaulting on the on-duty journalist Sirajul Islam Shishir, Executive Editor of The Daily Sky (an English neewspaper) and Sirajganj Correspondent of Dipta TV and Daily Khoborer Kagoj at the premises of Magura Binod Union Parishad in Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj district on Thursday.

Centering the incident, journalists’ leaders including The Daily Sky family and President-Secretary of Sirajganj Press Club condemned and protested the incident and demanded immediate arrest to the attackers.

They also urged the authorities concerned including law enforcers to ensure exemplary punishment to the involved with the attacking, assaulting and misusing the government rice sanctioned for the poor and poorest people.

According to the local sources and eyewitnesses, influential rice trader Sahed, his son Arif and Ashique attacked on Shishir and assaulted him, when he was capturing video footage, while they (rice smuggling syndicate members) purchasing VWB (VGD) rice from the poorest after distributing by the local Union Parishad.

The attackers were carrying the unethical works (rice purchasing from the poor) in collaboration with local Union Parishad members and chairman. They equipped with lethal weapons attacked him and assault physically. Hearing the screaming, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him from the attackers.

He was given preliminary aid in the local hospital.

A case was lodged with Tarash Police Station in this connection.
