Police recovered the body of a woman, who went missing after a boat capsized at the confluence of Padma, Meghna, and Dakatia rivers in Chandpur on August 13, from Bhola’s Charfesson upazila, three days after the capsize.

The deceased, Setu, 30, wife Faruk Hossain Tayyab and mother of a 3-year-old son, was found on Friday night when her body floated ashore near the Betua Meghna riverbank in the upazila.

Charfesson Police Station officer-in-charge Shakhawat Hossain, confirmed that the body was handed over to Setu’s uncle, Mosharraf Masud, on Saturday morning, adding,” Sub-Inspectors Yasin Paik and Shahin identified the body as Setu after recovering it.”

According to her uncle, on Tuesday night, Setu and five others, went on a trip from the Chandpur launch terminal in an engine-powered boat. As they reached the Meghna’s confluence, the boat capsized due to strong currents. While a passing speedboat rescued four people, including the boat driver, Setu and newlywed Fahima went missing. All the passengers were from Charmakandi village in Matlab South Upazila.

Setu’s brother, Tanvir Ahmed, said locals discovered the body floating on the Meghna River’s char near Betua Riverbank and informed police. Upon confirmation via video, the family set out for Char Fasson to retrieve the body.
