A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for two brothers — Rajib Bepari and Sajib Bepari — who were arrested in connection with the murder of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Md Sohag (39).
Shohag was brutally killed in broad daylight in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka on 9 July.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia issued the remand order on Monday (July 14) following a hearing after police presented the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand, said Kotwali Police Station Inspector Md Moniruzzaman.
The two suspects were arrested on Sunday (July 13) from the China Mor area of Durgapur municipality in Netrokona.
With their arrest, the total number of suspects arrested in the case now stands at seven.
The murder took place on 9 July, when Sohag, a local scrap trader, was killed in front of Mitford Hospital shortly before sundown.
CCTV footage, which surfaced on social media the following day, showed several men dragging Sohag’s bloodied body onto the adjacent road, where the assault continued.
According to police and local sources, the attack stemmed from a longstanding dispute over control of the illicit copper wire and scrap trade in the Mitford area.
