A mobile court in combination with District and upazila Administration as well as Environment Department demolished a brick kiln in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district on Wednesday.

The mobile court also fined Tk 3 lakh to another brick kiln for running in illegal manner.

According to the directive of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Nazrul Islam, the mobile court led by Khadiza Khatun, Assistant Commissioner (land) in Raiganj was conducted in Raiganj upazila to stop pollution from illegal brick kilns.

Tuhin Alam, Assistant Director of Environment Department in Sirajganj told The Daily Sky that, Messrs Mama Bhagne Brick Kiln had been running business of brick producing and marketing without legal approval and even environmental clearance. They didn’t stop their illegal act even after giving several notices to them. This is why, the mobile court raided the brick kiln and demolished the unauthorized chimney and other installations.

Besides, the mobile court team raided Messrs Protyoy Brick Kiln and fined Tk 3 lakh for violating the rules and regulations.

Police and army personnel took part in the drive along with the officials of upazila administration and environment department.

Earlier on Monday last, a mobile court demolished an illegal brick kiln in the upazila and fined two other brick kiln owners at Tk 8 lakh for want of legal approval and licenses.

In that drive, the chimney of Messrs Master and Sons brick kiln was demolished completely with a Veku machine (excavator) on charge of operating the brick kiln without legal permission and polluting the environment by burning firewood.

Besides, fine of Tk 5 lakh was imposed against M/s Khan brick kiln and Tk 3 lakh against M/s Khandaker brick kiln for violating rules.
