Death of newborn baby sparks protest

A mobile court on Thursday noon imposed fine at Tk 50,000 to Peace Lab and Hospital located in Bheruadaho area in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj district on the basis of an allegation over the death of a newborn baby.
Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) conducted the drive and directed to shut down the activities of the unauthorized hospital’s operation theatre (OT).
During the drive, he was companied by upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Masud Rana and some other relevant officials.
Sources said that, the mobile court was conducted on the basis of a complaint over the death of a newborn baby.
The newborn baby died on Wednesday during the cesarean operation of a pregnant woman due to mismanagement of the hospital authorities.
During the raid, the executive magistrate of the mobile court Md. Mushfiqur Rahman summoned the hospital’s documents. The mobile court also picked up Faruk Hossain, one of the shareholders of the hospital for next action.
Relatives of the newborn baby also protested the death incident and mismanagement of the hospital authorities and demanded closure of its activities.
