TDS Desk:
Molasses have been imported from Pakistan for the first time as the country has become an affordable option for Bangladesh due to India’s 50% duty hike a year ago.
On Thursday morning, the Panama-flagged Dolphin-19 freight ship reached Mongla Port with 5,500 tonnes of the sweet product, and unloading activities began in the noon.
Afterwards, the molasses would be transported to Baghabari in Sirajganj, from where these will be sent to different distribution centres across the country.
Mongla Port Authority Deputy Director Md Makruzzaman and Member Commodore Shafikul Islam Sarkar were present during the unloading activities to celebrate the first molasses import from Pakistan.
The port officials congratulated the captain and sailors of the Panama-flagged vessel as well as the Bangladeshi importing company for the successful shipment.
