Teachers and employees of Mosque-based children and mass-education programmes under Belkuch unit in Sirajganj district on Saturday staged demonstrations including holding sit-in-programme and forming human chain at the Collectorate building premises in the town to press home their 5-point demands.
The demonstrators also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Adviser through Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Sirajganj seeking immediate steps in this regard.
Teachers, officers and employees of the Mosque-based Children and Mass-Education Program (8th phase) project took part in the demonstrations.
The programme was presided over by Md. Habibullah, Field Officer of the Islamic Foundation’s Sirajganj unit.
The speakers at the programme said, “The Mosque-based Children and Mass-Education Programme project implemented by the Islamic Foundation has been providing free pre-primary education to the poor, disadvantaged and children from remote areas using mosque infrastructure across the country in the light of the National Education Policy. In this way, the enrollment rate in primary schools is increased, student dropout is prevented and the Holy Quran, morality and religious values are being taught to teenagers and adults. Through this project, poverty has been eliminated and employment opportunities have been created for mosque imams, muezzins, clerics and unemployed men and women educated in general education. But those concerned have been deprived of salaries and allowances for a long time.”
They called for the immediate implementation of their 5-point demands, including the payment of Eid bonus before Eid-ul-Azha. Otherwise, they warned for a tougher movement shortly.

Abdul Latif, Islamic Foundation Tarash Upazila Model Caretaker Abdul Majid, Islamic Foundation Sirajganj Supervisor Shahin Sarkar, Mahbub Alam, Md. Imran Hossain and Md. Masud Rana among others spoke on the occasion.
